April is Child Abuse Awareness Month
While you are driving around Gray this month, you may notice pinwheels blowing in the wind. The pinwheel is the symbol used during this month to remind citizens that child abuse is a real cancer in all communities. The pinwheels symbolize the 1 in 10 children who will experience sexual abuse before their 18th birthday. The pinwheels symbolize the over 10,000 children in Georgia who suffer physical, medical and emotional abuse and neglect. The pinwheels symbolize the more than 90 children that died in Georgia as a result of child abuse last year.
The pinwheel is a symbol of childhood as we hope it will be and it should serve as a reminder that there are children in our community who are still hoping for basic safety.
