Morgan County conviction

Tommy Joe Byrd was convicted by a Morgan County jury of felony murder and aggravated assault after a weeklong trial for the May 2020 murder of Jerald “Jed” Bowden. The case was tried by Senior Assistant District Attorney Jeff Burks and Assistant District Attorney Blayne May. Superior Court Judge Terry N. Massey sentenced Byrd to life without the possibility of parole due to Byrd’s previous multiple felony convictions, one of which was a 1986 conviction for voluntary manslaughter. The District Attorney's office would like to thank the GBI, Morgan County Sheriff's Office and the Walton County Sheriff's Office for their efforts in the joint investigation.
