A busy October...

Happy Halloween!! Your District Attorney’s Office has been busy all month long keeping the goblins and ghouls away. We obtained convictions in Hancock, Baldwin, Jones, Greene, and Morgan Counties this month. Listed below are just a few of the convictions we worked hard to get during the month of October.

On or about May 28, 2021, Christopher Collin Demmon murdered Justin Yeng Xiong in Hancock County. On the eve of trial, Demmon entered a guilty plea to the charge of malice murder. Chief Judge Brenda H. Trammell sentenced Demmon to life with the possibility of parole. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Faith Worley and Chief Assistant District Attorney Allie Mauldin.

On November 13, 2017, Cameron Banks, Justerious “Shy” Canty, and Jaqualan Clark broke into the home of Marquise Hardwick. Canty and Clark shot Hardwick twenty-four times as he laid in his bed. At the conclusion of a two week trial, a Jones County jury found all three defendants guilty on all counts. Superior Court Judge Alison T. Burleson sentenced the defendants to life without parole plus multiple decades to follow.

On October 4, the Georgia Supreme Court upheld the conviction and sentence of Brian Duane Brookins. Brookins was convicted and sentenced to death on October 16, 2007, for the murders of Sandra Suzanne Brookins and 15-year-old Samntha Rae Giles. The appeal was handled Assistant District Attorney Sydney Segers and the Attorney General’s Office.
