Wright convicted of multiple counts of child cruelty

On September 23, 2026, a Greene County jury returned a verdict of guilty on all counts in the State v. Damian Andre Wright. In September of 2024, the Defendant physically abused a nonverbal three-year-old child with developmental disabilities. The victim’s injuries included a spinal compression fracture and fractures to both arms. After a three-day trial, the Defendant was convicted of Cruelty to Children in the First Degree, Cruelty to Children in the Second Degree, and three counts of Aggravated Battery. Superior Court Judge Brenda H. Trammell sentenced the Defendant to ninety years with the first twenty-five years to be served in prison and the remainder on probation. Following the conviction, the Defendant entered a guilty plea to two counts of Aggravated Assault in separate case in which the Defendant attempted to run over the mother and grandmother of his infant son with a motor vehicle. He received a sentence of twenty years in prison to run concurrent with his sentence on the child abuse case.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Blayne May and Devin Sinclair, Victim Advocate Jessica Duvall, and Legal Assistant Kristina Brewer. The investigation was handled by the Greensboro Police Department.
