Evans convicted of malice murder in Putnam County

Lajuan Piere Evans, 25, of Monticello was sentenced to life with the possibility of parole after being found guilty by a Putnam County jury for malice murder and related charges for the killing of Fredrick Lamar Scott Jr. during the afternoon of June 4, 2023. Evans was holding a handgun when the victim approached him at the Eatonton Shell Station. Evans shot the victim in the torso which caused the victim to bleed out internally and pass away within hours of the shooting. Evans quickly left the crime scene, disposed of the handgun, and evaded law enforcement. Evans was later apprehended and identified from security footage obtained from the Shell Station.

The District Attorney’s Office would like to especially thank Eatonton Chief of Police Howell Cardwell, the Eatonton Police Department Officers, Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills, and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Deputies for their vigorous investigation efforts and testimony at trial. The case was prosecuted by Chief Assistant District Attorney Allison Mauldin and Assistant District Attorney Blayne May.
