Haufler Conviction Upheld

The Supreme Court of Georgia upheld Chad Haufler’s 2018 murder conviction on Tuesday, February 21st. Following Superior Court Judge Brenda H. Trammell denying Haufler’s Motion for New Trial on March 16, 2022, Haufler filed an appeal. As with any murder conviction, the Georgia Supreme Court heard the argument from Haufler’s attorneys on why his conviction should be overturned.

Assistant District Attorney Blayne May wrote a brief to the Supreme Court explaining the State’s position that the conviction should be affirmed. District Attorney T. Wright Barksdale represented the State when the Supreme Court held oral arguments on the appeal in early December.

Justice McMillian, writing for all of the justices, decided that even if errors occurred as Haufler argued, the evidence was overwhelming enough that it didn’t contribute to the jury’s verdict. Renee Dimos, the wife of victim Marc Dimos, said that it was a “very good day” when told the news. Chad Haufler will be eligible for parole after he serves 30 years of his sentence.
