A Baldwin County jury convicted Milton McDonald, 54, of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in the 2024 shooting at a Milledgeville residence located on N. Clarke Street. On the morning of October 17, 2024, the victim reported to police that he had been shot and robbed in his home by a man he knew as "New York" who lived in The Milledgeville Manor. Investigators with the Milledgeville Police Department and Baldwin Sheriff's Office were able to identify McDonald and retrieved surveillance video from The Milledgeville Manor immediately before and after the shooting. McDonald fled to North Carolina, where he was subsequently arrested in November, 2024. A sweatshirt he was wearing during the incident and which he discarded immediately thereafter was found to contain gunshot particle residue. McDonald's wife testified that she had seen him in possession of a revolver in the days leading up to the shooting, and the victim was shot with a revolver. McDonald had previously been convicted of the felony crimes of theft by receiving, theft by shoplifting, and burglary and was thus prohibited from possessing a firearm. McDonald was found not guilty of armed robbery.
The case was prosecuted by Mercer Law School Intern Jordan Bell and Assistant District Attorney Nancy Scott Moskaly. The District Attorney's Office would like to thank Det. Keith Quattrocchi of the Milledgeville Police Department, who investigated the case, and greatly appreciates the efforts of the Milledgeville Police Department, the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's Department of Forensic Services for their work in this case. McDonald was sentenced to 30 years in prison by Superior Court Judge Brenda H. Trammell, who presided over the 3-day trial.
